Viking Prestige

The 2011 sailing season will welcome the newest ship in Europe, Viking Prestige, sister ship to the extraordinary Viking Legend that launched in 2009. Viking Prestige will carry 188 guests on some of river cruising's most popular itineraries. Each of these state-of-the-art vessels has two 310-square-foot suites and 97 staterooms, all deluxe (except for the 6 single staterooms) with either French balconies or picture windows. With good deck height, Viking Prestige is similar to Viking Sun and Viking Helvetia, but has a slightly sleeker shape for ultimate flexibility. Best of all, Viking Prestige is a “green” ship, running on hybrid diesel-electric engines that produce 20% fewer emissions and reduced noise/vibration. Cutting-edge design, unmatched comfort and environmentally conscious—Viking Prestige has it all.

Recommended For

Adventurous travelers who love local culture and in-depth exploration. Experienced cruisers looking to try something new.

Activities

To complement your onshore excursions, take part in Viking’s Old World Highlights—immersive learning and enhancement activities both on board and ashore:
• Hands-on demonstrations in cuckoo clock-making, wooden shoe-carving or glassblowing
• Classes in cooking specialties like apple strudel and Alsatian flammkuchen
• Traditional performances of folk music and dance, or waltzes by Strauss
• Tastings of local cheeses, coffees, liqueurs and other delicacies

Sometimes you want to dig a little deeper. We offer a series of onboard multimedia talks to shed light on the history and culture of the places you visit. Learn about:
• Dutch Masters or French impressionists
• Castles along the Rhine Valley
• The formation of the European Union
• The life and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
• Wine and cuisine of southern France
• Key words and phrases in the local language wherever you are traveling

Dining

Viking's chefs create a variety of tasty offerings for you, with freshly prepared seasonal local vegetables, European specialties adapted to satisfy the tastes of their passengers, and homemade soups prepared daily. For breakfast, choose from selections of pastries, cereals, breakfast meats, fresh fruit and selected cheeses. Or you may prefer a hot dish, such as an omelet prepared to order. At lunch, select from the soup and sandwich bar, or a choice of entrées and dessert. And for dinner, you are treated to a five-course gourmet menu with regional specialties. You can also select from regional wines to perfectly complement your meal. And wherever you sail, you will find enhancements reflecting your itinerary—it is all part of experiencing the local culture.

Entertainment

Library
The library has comfortable seating and excellent reading light. Our ships' libraries carry approximately 80 books, in various languages but mostly English, and several games such as chess, backgammon and playing cards.

Observation Lounge/Bar
The observation lounge is a terrific place to meet friends before and after meals. It boasts a large sitting area with chairs, small tables, sofas and a bar area with barstools. The lounge has a projector and screen installed in the ceiling, so slides can be shown, and there is a stereo system and dance floor.

Sun Deck
Enjoy sunshine and fresh air while you take in 360-degree views of the scenery as you sail past castles, towns, villages, trees and vineyards. Stand at the railings or relax in a comfortable deck chair; some of the seating has a canopy for those who prefer shade. There is an access way from the sun deck to the bridge as well as to the library via staircase at the ship's stern. The sun deck can be accessed from the library and the atrium.

Gratuities

Viking River Cruises recommend a gratuity of 10-12 dollars per person, per day.

Note: Gratuity Policies are subject to change. Updated June 21, 2010

Dress

Viking River Cruises recommend a comfortable, casual wardrobe for onboard and ashore. During the evening they recommend ‘evening casual” and the Capain’s dinner is slightly dressier, but not formal.
