Struggles and issues are arising all the time, with many of the citizens calling for a revolt, or for an actual separation of the two communities. 66% of Montreal s citizens speak French, although this number used to be much higher. In general, the other 34% are English-speaking, and the French feel that they are being inundated with Anglophones attempting to take over their communities and their culture. In any event, whichever language you happen to speak, as a tourist you will be welcomed to this city with open arms.
